It Took a Total Team Effort For the Blue Jays to Beat the Astros Tonight

Chalk it up in the win column, the Blue Jays win game one of a three-game series vs the Houston Astros.

The bottom of the lineup came up very clutch for the Blue Jays today. In the top of the fifth inning, Santiago Espinal hit a rocket to left field to cut the Astros lead to 1. Santi did not even have enough time to celebrate in the home run jacket because the very next pitch to Bradley Zimmer hit a home run.

If I told you that Bradley Zimmer would get his first tonight for the Jays against Justin Verlander you would think I'm crazy. Call me a psycho then because Zimmer hit a home run tonight against Verlander. It barely went out but it went out so that is all that matters. What a time for his first home run as a member of the Blue Jays, as he tied the game at 3.

The bullpen did their job and locked it down and kept the game tied at 3-3 until the top of the ninth inning. Vladdy leads off the inning with a single, then Lourdes pops out to his brother, and Collins popped out to center. It came down to the Blue Jays new third basemen Matt Chapman. He hits a ball to the left-field gap and Vladdy showed off the wheels and was able to make it first to home and the Blue jays took a 4-3 lead.

Like most Blue Jays games this year they all have been close. Romano, who has been amazing all year let up two singles and runners at the corners with one out. That did not phase him, he was able to strike out the next two batters and he got all three outs that inning by strikeouts. Romano was able to get his 31 consecutive saves in a row tonight.

Tonight's game felt like a playoff game. Seeing other people step up beside the superstars will give this team a bunch of confidence. Let's hope Alek Manoah throws a gem tomorrow and the Blue Jays win.
