Holy shit, that was an awesome game to watch. Illinois killed Michigan 76-53. It seemed that Illinois was in a class of their own tonight. Michigan did not deserve to be in the same gym as us. Vegas got this one completely wrong with Illinois as an +8.5 underdog.
This team is showing why they deserve to be in the conversation for a National Championship. Everyone in the world was talking about how it is Baylor, Gonzaga, and Michigan than everyone else. Illinois is deserving of a one seed in the NCAA tournament. Illinois just dogged walk Michigan without the best player in college basketball.
This win proves how good Illinois is. Winning a game without your best player is hard enough. To blow a team out is insane. It was a total team effort. Kofi shut down Hunter Dickinson, who averages 15 points to a 1-8 shooting. The whole team played amazing defense all night. Michigan only had one player in double figures and, he shot 3-8 from the field. Trent Frazier flipped the switch and took us back in time to what he used to be like his freshman year. Frazier had 22 points and a couple of nasty cross-overs. This win also showed what the future will be like with Andre Curbelo and Adam Ace Miller. Belo had 17 points and was weaving his way through the Michigan defense. Ace only had 6 points but, he had a nasty step-back three.
This team is just so fun to watch. I remember the dark days of Illinois basketball. When we would get our ass kicked and lose to teams like northwestern. I was too young to remember the 2004-2005 team, so to see an Illinois team play well is fun to watch.
Whenever Ayo comes back this team is going to be so dominant. They will be even better than they were before he got hurt. This team is a legit one seed and has a chance to win it all. When this team is at full strength, I expect them to beat whoever tries to step in front of them.
