The former number two overall pick from 2017 showed why he was worth the pick. Ball had 33 points 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Filling up the entire stat sheet. The Pelicans ended up winning 140-136.
I am a big Lonzo supporter. I think he has the potential to be one of the best point guards in the NBA. But holy shit, can he shoot something besides a three-pointer. In this game against the Timberwolves out of the 21 shots that Lonzo took 17 of them were threes. I LOVE that he is putting up 20 plus shots but you can take more than just three-pointers.
Lonzo has been putting up stats like this during the season but they go unnoticed for two reasons. The first one is the media loves talking about Zion and they do not talk about Lonzo at all. The other reason is Pelicans lose.
Ever since Lonzo has started wearing the t-shirt undershirt like he did at UCLA he has been looking like his UCLA self. I do hope he brings back the one leg sleeve though that is always swaggy.
To all the people that still like to make the joke that Lonzo can't shoot is just wrong. Zo is shooting 37.4% from three. Also, Ball used to be so bad at free throws over his first three years in the league. His career free throw percentage is 54.7% but, this year it's up to 78%. That just shows each year Lonzo is growing as a shooter and is just getting better.
33 points is Lonzo's career-high. He has flirted with the 30 number a lot but has never gotten there. I am really glad he put on a show and helped carry the Pelicans to a win tonight.
