Thank You Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman's time is up as a San Francisco 49er. Sherman said today, “It is pretty clear I will not return to 49ers.”

It makes sense. Sherman is getting older, and the 49ers have players they need to resign that will be expensive. You can not be mad at Sherman for leaving. He was part of the rebuild of this team. You want players to get as much money as possible in their career and, the 49ers do not have the money to spend on him.

The things Sherman did for this franchise are incredible. He developed a culture as soon as he arrived. Sherman knew what it took to win, being a Superbowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks. When he came over to the 49ers, the team was nowhere close to where it is now. Sherman earned the right of being a team captain two out of the three years with the 49ers. He would always talk up young, unproven players who fed off that and made the team better.

Sherman was also a leader. His first year here, the team was awful, but he did not quit on the team. He showed up day in and day out. Some players may have given up on the team or started to point fingers but not Sherman. He took full responsibility when they lost and always said he had to play better.

You can tell the 49ers have a priority to bring back Jason Verrett. He was the other corner with Sherman, and he had an explosive year this season. It makes sense Verrett is younger and can get even better. Also, the 49ers only have one cornerback under contract right now and, he is a backup. So it also makes sense to get one in the draft who is younger and cheaper than Sherman to pair along with Verrett assuming, he resigns the team.

As a fan, all I have to say Is thank you! I went from hating Sherman with all my guts when he was part of the "Legion of Boom" to becoming one of my favorite players on the 49ers. I wish Sherman nothing but the best of luck where ever he goes next.
